Face the Nation Ignores Truth about the JFK Assassination
by Jacob G. Hornberger

For 50 years the mainstream media has scrupulously avoided confronting the ever-mounting evidence of conspiracy in the JFK assassination. A classic example of this phenomenon occurred last week on the CBS talk show Face the Nation, hosted by Bob Schieffer, who has been with CBS since 1969.

Here’s what happened. Schieffer had three guests on his show to discuss the Kennedy assassination, two journalists and Dr. Robert Jones, who was the chief resident at Parkland Hospital, where President Kennedy was brought in for treatment.

Here is the Face the Nation segment. Go to 2:50 for Dr. Jones’ statement.

After describing how he learned that the president had been brought into Parkland and the scene in the emergency room where Kennedy had been brought in, Jones stated the following:

I noticed a small hole in the front of the neck that I estimated to be about a quarter of an inch and I knew he had a large wound in the back of his head the extent of which I wasn’t sure because we hadn’t examined him that closely.

What is significant about Jones’ statement?

His description of the head wound in the back of Kennedy’s head directly contradicts the official autopsy photograph that is in the record showing the back of JFK’s head to be intact. The following is the official rendering of the back of Kennedy’s head by House Select Committee Illustrator Ida Dox in 1978:

Moreover, his statement regarding the small quarter-sized wound in the front of Kennedy’s throat also connotes an entry wound, as Dallas physician Dr. Macolm Perry stated three times at a press conference immediately after Kennedy’s death.

What was Schieffer’s reaction to Jones’s statement?

He totally ignored it, nonchalantly following up with an innocuous question.

Schieffer: And he was alive at that point but just barely?

Later in the show, Schieffer had another opportunity to follow up on what Jones had said. Completely dropping the subject of Kennedy’s wounds, Schieffer’s subsequent line of questioning focused on the treatment of Lee Harvey Oswald after he was brought into Parkland two days later.

This is classic mainstream treatment of the Kennedy case. In fact, I’ll bet the person who lines up guests for Face the Nation might have even faced a good reaming out for not properly vetting Jones before putting him on the show.

To belabor the obvious, an exit wound in the back of JFK’s head means that he was shot in the head by a shooter in front of him, not behind him. Lee Harvey Oswald was situated behind him, not in front of him.

Moreover, Jones’ description of the quarter-inch hole in the front of Kennedy’s throat also means an entry wound there. An entry wound is about the size of a bullet. An exit wound is much larger.

Therefore, what Jones did on Face the Nation is set forth a description of wounds that not only directly contradicts the official story — that Lee Harvey Oswald shot Kennedy in the back of the head and the back of the neck (i.e., the magic bullet theory) — but also that the government conspired to cover up evidence of shots having been fired from the front with a false and fraudulent autopsy.

Wouldn’t you think that would be big news on Face the Nation? Wouldn’t you expect a top-class journalist like Bob Schieffer to follow up with something like the following:

Dr. Jones, if what you are saying is true, then that means that the government’s official version of what happened on November 23 is false and it also means that the government engaged in a cover-up with a fake and fraudulent autopsy.

Wouldn’t that have made for a fascinating discussion?

But no matter how much credible evidence has mounted that points inexorably toward cover-up, the mainstream media, for some reason, just won’t touch it.

We mustn’t forget that Jones is not the only person who saw the large exit wound in the back of Kennedy’s head. As I pointed out last week in my article “More Evidence of Cover-Up in the JFK Assassination,” there was also Dr. Teal Curtis, who was also treating Kennedy, who told the Canyon News in Texas last week about the large exit wound in the back of JFK’s head. As the article states: “Curtis also looked, and he told the audience “the posterior part of his head was blown out.”

They aren’t the only ones. There is Dr. Robert McClelland, a 34-year-old surgeon at Parkland who said the same thing.

Indeed, as I observed in my article “The Shot That Killed Kennedy,” according to David Lifton, author of the book Best Evidence,

Indeed, six Dallas doctors testified the wound in the head was an exit wound; and a seventh, Dr. Kemp Clark, said it could be an exit wound but it was also possible the wound was “tangential”; Dr. Jones testified it “appeared to be an exit wound in the posterior portion of the skull”; Dr. Perry referred to it as “avulsive”; Dr. Jenkins, referring to the region as “exploded,” said, “I would interpret it as being a wound of exit”; and Dr. Akin said, “I assume that the right occipitoparietal [lower right rear of head] region was the exit.” [Text in brackets added.]

They are more. There is Secret Service agent Clint Hill, who said the same thing. And two FBI agents, Frank O’Neil and James Sibert. And Jacqueline Kennedy.

The fact is that as the JFK evidence has gradually been disclosed over the decades — evidence that the government originally wanted to be kept secret for 75 years — the circumstantial evidence confirming a large exit wound in the back of Kennedy’s head has reached a critical mass.

That means a conspiracy, one way or the other. There is no way for anyone to avoid it. Either all the people who say that there was an exit wound in the back of Kennedy’s head, including the Dallas physicians, two FBI agents, a Secret Service agent, Mrs. Kennedy, and others have all conspired to come up with a fake and false story about the exit wound in the back of Kennedy’s head or national-security state officials conspired to hide the exit wound from the public.

It’s either one or the other.

That’s one of the major issues in the JFK case that the mainstream media has done its best to avoid, for they know that if they say that the government is telling the truth, they are implicitly suggesting one of the most ridiculous conspiracy theories in history. But if they accept that all those treating doctors, FBI agents, Secret Service agent, Mrs. Kennedy, and others were telling the truth, then they have to conclude that the government engaged in a cover-up with a fake and fraudulent autopsy.

As Bob Schieffer demonstrates, the mainstream media has obviously chosen to avoid confronting and investigating the issue. It’s easier to just face the nation and keep ignoring the truth.
